Personal Assistance Services Program (PAS)

You are probably asking yourself what are Personal Assistance Services. Well, that is an easy question. Personal Assistance Services or commonly known as (PAS) are those services required by a person with a Disability, other than skilled nursing, which enable him or her to live independently in the community by hiring individuals to perform routine tasks of daily living. Typical tasks include getting dressed and undressed, grooming, bathing, bowel and bladder care, meal preparation, eating, and clean-up and household duties.

Qualification

Who qualifies for consumer controlled PAS services, well let us inform you.

To receive these services the person must be receiving Medicaid, be at least 18 years old, have a disability, be able and willing to recruit, hire and manage attendants, and must be seeking or living in an independent living situation.

How our PAS program works

PAS services through DCAI's program are consumer controlled. Consumer control means that the person with a disability receiving services is legally considered the employer of an attendant, and is responsible for locating, hiring, and managing his/her own attendants. A friend or family member may be hired as an attendant, with the exception of a spouse. DCAI provides training for PAS participants in Iron, Crawford, Dent, Reynolds, Washington, Franklin,
Maries and Gasconade counties, on hiring and managing attendants. This training is available through individual training or through peer consultation.
